John's Famous Stew

As mentioned great hole in the wall tavern. Stew is homemade and is the BEST I’ve ever had, and the bread is darn good too. The servers have been here for years and are all great. Great drinks at the old school bar.

A co-worker recommended this place and it was amazing. It may not look like much from the outside but this place has some of the best tasting tenderloin I've ever had and the stew was delicious. Food portions were immense and their pricing comes in under fast food joints. Definitely coming back to try other items. While not kid friendly because of the open bar, I would still recommend this for a fun change of pace in Indy's near Southwest side.

One of the best kept secrets of downtown Indianapolis. The stew is amazing, and the staff is extremely nice. What more can I say? I love JSW!

As a former employee of Galahad's Cafe and spirits in Pike township I knew what the deal was when I stepped through the door of this quaint, historical establishment on the edge of downtown. After being away from Galahad's for 25 years, I remembered how good the stew was and a certain manager telling me about where it came from. A quick Google search revealed John's Famous stew near downtown. I was happy to see almost all the menu items I had once been familiar with from 25 years back, and of course the stew. It was nice to reacquaint myself with this family again.
