A fresh experience near the lakefront with a large menu. I had the muscles and clams. They were fantastic. Wife had avocado chicken sandwich and liked it. They even have a children's menu.
Looks like a nice refreshing place to go for breakfast also. Beautiful setting.
What a wonderful restaurant/bar we encountered. By far one of the best locations I have been to my entire life. Great staff and wonderful atmosphere. My wife and I were visiting the dunes park for the first time and we needed a place to eat. We decided to drive to Michigan City and on the way we found The Goblin Grocer restaurant and boy, am I happy we went in! We sat at the bar where the bartender Michael took care of us in the best possible way. He is a very knowledgeable person and very skilled at his craft. He made us very happy and I can't express how happy my wife and I are to have visited the Grocer Goblin! A must visit location!
The place is cute, nice ambience. Service was a bit slow. And the menu was overpriced for what it was. Since it was cocktail hour with no real menu( didn’t know there was a break in the middle of service) We ordered hummus, a bowl of soup and poke. Poke had good flavor, not a large portion. Too many crackers, chips or rice would have been a better accompaniment. Ginger carrot soup was bland. Hummus platter only had about 1-2 TBSP of hummus. The portion was a joke. Served with lots of good veggies, good pita, but half if the veg was hot peppers. Way too much. Overall unimpressed. Just go across the street for firetruck pizza and get a beer at the liquor store.
The chef has some really nice combinations of seasonings. Loved the soups both times I have been there. But also, both times I have been there, we ordered something from the menu, and we're told it wasn't available. Today, when ordering dessert and coffee, the very sweet waitress told us that everyone was in a meeting in the back room, and nobody knew how to make a latte. So we ordered plain coffee, and she came back to tell us they had run out of regular coffee, and she didn't know how to make some more. We just skipped dessert and left. Kind of a disappointing experience. The location is wonderful, and the concept of the place is great. But no one could step out of the meeting to make a pot of coffee? Not good business practice.
