Grumpy's Bar & Event Center

I've lives in small town Iowa pretty much my whole life and didn't know this place existed. The food was unique and phenomenal. The service was great as well,our waiter was very attentive and friendly,and the overall vibe from the place was just amazing. I got the chicken Philly, my fiance and our friend both got the gooey burger and we shared an appetizer platter with corn nuggets,fried pickle wraps with raspberry sauce for dipping and pepper jack cheese nuggets and we were all pleasantly stuffed,to say the least. Huge thank you to our friend for suggesting this place,will definitely be going back.

When food did arrive, it was really good. Finally found a place that makes a rueben like a Jewish deli. My husband had a roast beef sandwich and said beef was tender and flavorful. Place had a nice feel to it. Being strangers in a place where everyone knows everyone else, we were welcomed, with staff being very friendly. Recommend if you are in area. We plan to return.

Adding this place to our list of favorite small town bars! Awesome atmosphere and a large menu full of normal small town bar food mixed with a few interesting (and delicious) food items I have yet to see anywhere else. Food came out pretty quick but wasn’t thrown together sloppily like some places. Very neat and tidy. Lots of seating and very clean; including the quite large bathrooms.

Waitress was nice and explained everything to us. She was also great at keeping our drinks full and asking us if we needed anything while we were there.

My entire experience was way more than I have come to expect at a small town bar/restaurant. The menu was what I expect from a fancy restaurant in Des Moines. Everyone working was ready to serve with a smile. They have amazing events and the perfect place to host it all. ABOVE & BEYOND EVERY EXPECTATION I HAD. What I heard was true. It really is the BEST dive bar. Also get the fried pickles. Your Welcome.

Great food at a great price. The staff was very friendly, even though we showed up at 8pm for supper they were good to us. The burgers were great and so we're the tenderloins. A definite repeat place for me
