Cronk's Cafe

Sadly, this iconic diner and part of Iowa's history is now permanently closed after being in business since 1929. Their root beer was legendary! The place is for sale, so there is still hope that someday soon they might be open again.

The food is probably the best from a family cafe type of restaurant that I've had. I had the meatloaf on this visit and the flavor was different and impressive. The gravy tasted like it was their own recipe and not a boxed gravy mix. Not bad on the price and a generous amount of food too. They actually served veggies and a small salad with their meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Great comfort food! I will have to try something different on my next visit.

Our waitress was good at not being too invasive, but paid attention to our drinks adequately. So I liked the service too. Visited on 2/19/20. Love the name too, Cronk's Cafe.

We were wow'ed by this place on a number of levels. The staff was friendly and talkative, we felt welcomed instantly. The prices are awesome, 7 people are for under $50. And if you are unsure of what to order, get the broasted chicken, you won't be disappointed. Overall, we're planning to make this a regular stop when we're driving through.

I like small a town cafe. Good Iowa cooking. Inexpensive specials. I had the tenderloin with mash and gravy. Vegetables were cooked to rural Iowa standard. That is soft and mushy. The hot beef sandwich is reported to be very good.

The food is awesome! The service is Great! You must the donuts!
