    Downtown Iowa City is the true living room of the local community, where everyone can enjoy great locally-owned shops, restaurants, bars, the public library, several great theaters, and public art in a dense, walkable and clean environment. Since being rebranded in 2012 as the Iowa City Downtown District, the district has expanded with new housing options, new festivals such as Taste of Iowa City and the Downtown Block Party. Most parking ramps downtown are free for the first hour and on-street metered parking is free after 6 p.m. Each week it seems like a new restaurant or business concept is opened and the facelift to the beloved Pedestrian Mall will be a welcome addition.

    Downtown Iowa City is great and one of the ways it stays that way is through the hard work of non-profit organizations like the Iowa City Downtown District. This group puts on popular events like Taste of Iowa City and the Downtown Shop Crawl. They also work to coordinate public art projects like painting the benches on the Ped Mall.

    I can't say enough good things about the good work this organization has done for downtown Iowa City. I've been a resident long enough to have seen the real difference they've made with the downtown landscape. They're also a very welcoming organization. Thank you ICDD for all the good work you do!
