The fried chicken is very good but the wait of over an hour just wasn't. I realize it's fresh home cooking but watching a whole restaurant sit for that long waiting for their food just isn't enticing to want to go back any time soon. Hopefully when they move to their next location they get that long of a wait worked out...
The food was great! Service tried their best! Tried it for the first time and got there at 6:10 pm at 6:30 we got drinks and food came at 7:25. It took a long time, but the sides were excellent (cabbage, baked mac, stuffing, and collard greens) and the chicken was good too.
We went to Vivian's tonight and we knew we'd be back some day before we left. Everything was fabulous! I had the catfish with collared greens and mac & cheese. My wife had the meatloaf with green beans and potatoes. We kept sampling from each other because it was all irresistible. The staff that was on hand tonight was super friendly, too. HIGHLY recommended.
Found this place while Googling for a place to eat while travelling for work. The outside is rather unassuming, but masks a great eatery on the inside. I ordered the fried chicken with cornbread dressing and candied yams. It was all delicious and cooked well. The cornbread muffin they served was a little dry, though, and unfortunately, there was no butter or honey available to make it more palatable. Nonetheless, I will definitely go back to Vivian's when I'm in the neighborhood. There were plenty of other entrees I wanted to try (smothered pork chops, smothered chicken fried chicken to name a couple.)
Super friendly staff complimented by some of the best food in the area. Vivian's knows who they are and what they do well. It takes confidence to offer on average 4 entrees a day and a handful of side dishes. To pull off a menu like this, each and every dish needs to be PERFECT. Even slight flaws would be magnified by the limited choices. But that isn't a concern here, because as I said -- these people know what good food is and they do it to perfection. Everything just tastes.... REAL. It's comfort home cooking at it's best and I hope more people start heading out this way because Vivian's deserves every single customer that walks through the door.
