OK, so this is coming from a 20 year veteran in the restaurant industry in Chicago as well as a couple years in the quad cities. As this place is very new I am leaving 5 stars to not mess up their new business, as I wish them the best and have my fingers crossed for them, but I'd like to be very honest and hopefully direct with ownership because I'm really hoping they succeed as it's a really hard time right now being a restaurant, much less opening a brand new place in these trying times. So I understand that opening a new place it takes a little while to work out the kinks and separate the wheat from the chaff both staff wise and idea wise.

OK. I'm going to cover this review point by point in a way I would hope a paid restaurant consultant would cover it for me if I retained their services.

    1. Service: I couldn't call the restaurant to make a reservation as I found that searching through google and facebook there was no number I could find, and since I do not use facebook, I had to come down and make my reservation in person. This wasn't a huge deal for me personally as I could walk down pretty easily because I live on the edge of downtown, but I could see how this is a problem for other people, please try and figure out a way to have a phone line for reservations or questions.

The host was obviously a little inexperienced but had a good sense of hospitality, and definitely he handled the situation as best as possible considering the system he was working with, really deserves a pat on the back.

Our server was nice and friendly and obviously trying, but it was very hard to hear what she was saying as well as her hear us and we had issues with our order coming out right because of it. There was a little miscommunication between the server and food runner. As well, this restaurant is very small and the timing between drinks coming out, appetizer delivery, and entree delivery clashed with plate removal from the table as we were still sitting with our used appetizer dishes sitting in the middle of the table even though we pre-bussed and stacked to make things easy on the server as much as possible as we knew things were still very new but they were still sitting there halfway through entrees, even after waiting for our last entree to come out.

No one wants to play 4 questions with a machine for checkout, just print out checks and put them in a check presenter so tables can clear checks at their leisure, if you want feedback, place a comment card in the check presenter, people with strong feelings will leave feedback. You're not being technology forward, you're being annoying.

    2. Theme, Ambiance: Other than the "Aloha Burger" and some of the cocktails, there's really not a Hawaiian or Polynesian influence, just drop it and keep the pineapple as the Victorian symbol of hospitality. If you're going to be a place subtitled as libations and bites, get a lot more bites on the menu at a decent price, we would have been happy to just order bites and go family style without entrees. $21 for a bone marrow dish and $4 per oyster is a bit precious for downtown Davenport. If your menu is only going to have three entrees and two of them are specials with a fixed price.... Don't bother putting them on your menu and just use the space to announce that your server has nightly dinner specials and let your service staff do their job and sell the specials. I noticed that some tables had some candles, but ours wasn't as lucky and it was difficult to read in the dark, some oil candles might help you there, but other than that, no complaints.

    3. Food: Really can't complain here, tastes were on point, we just wanted some more variety in the bites section. Whoever is running the kitchen obviously has some idea what they are doing and we look forward to coming back some time and trying things again as they adjust things as feedback comes in.

Thank you very much for hosting us and good luck in your endeavor.

Great food and service. The drinks were not great and overpriced. They were full of crushed ice which really took away from any flavor of the drink. The food though... fantastic!

Gret location and great service. Food was good but I don't think it was worth the price. Also a lot of ice in drinks-you pay for more ice then alcohol.
