Grate Expectations

Very cute cafe. Well worth the detour off Hwy 36. Lady was exceptionally nice and made us feel like a regular. Food was wonderful too!

Renita has a way of preparing wonderful home cooked meals that every time taste like a meal that has been prepared for a special loved family member!! The atmosphere is warm and relaxing!!

Passing through the area on Highway 36 about 1:30 in the afternoon on a Wednesday, and the restaurant in Mankato was closed for the afternoon, so I went north to Burr Oak, just to see if anything was there, and found this little gem of a cafe. The special of the day was Beef and Bell Peppers in gravy, with mashed potatoes. It also came with a tall iced tea, and home-made bread pudding for desert. Everything was VERY excellent. You can't get good home-style cooking like this at any major chain. My son also got the special, and a soda. Our total bill for this most excellent lunch was only $15. Service was very friendly, big smiles, so I tipped them $5 more. It's not very out of the way, just 5 minutes north of hwy 36, and I will make it a point to return when I'm in the area. Yes, they do take credit cards.
