Today was my first time at Koi Ramen and I was absolutely blown away by the place, the atmosphere, and most importantly - the food! We ordered some potstickers, spicy tuna roll, and spicy pork belly ramen. the staff were kind and prompt. I will be returning!!
The Ramen was delicious and so authentic. The fried rice was so well flavored, and the sauce was spectacular! Kid's meals were a good balance between authentic cuisine and simplified flavors. Get the Hutchinson roll; it's the best sushi I've ever had! We also got our food incredibly fast, hardly 5 minutes after we ordered! This is a rare find in Hutchinson!
Everything was tasty! My husband declares it was some of the best sushi he's ever had! We will be back.
Wonderful time... great service and food was amazing.
This place was AMAZING! I've been waiting for so long for a place like this to come to Hutchinson and I hope it stays a really long time because the good was so good!. (Warning: I was so excited for the food that we had already started eating when I remembered to take pictures.
My husband got the Spicy Chicken Ramen and I got the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (with Kimchi added). My husband liked the ramen and had no complaints about it outside the realm of it was a different experience for him. Me, as someone who loves Ramen, had a lot to say. It was absolutely delicious. The broth was perfect, the pork belly was tender, the kimchi was very tasty, and all the other veggies tasted great. I've never had bamboo shoot so I can't comment on the taste of that, but for a first time I didn't hate it. My only issue is I believe my ramen was supposed to have bean sprouts but there was none on my ramen. The bowls you get are HUGE! So well worth the $12 a bowl for what we got. Also. On the spicy ramen they ask you about heat intensity. Our awesome waiter offered to bring a bit of extra chili oil for me so I could make mine spicier if I wanted it spicier. It ended up being perfect though. So if you are unsure about the heat I would say get Mild and then ask for a side of chili oil to adjust for yourself.
We also got 3 appetizers because, as I said, I was really excited to try this place and try food I've never gotten to have before. So we got the grilled tofu app, the Takoyaki (not the yakitori version) app, and the Sesame Balls with red bean paste.
I personally didn't feel the grilled tofu was worth the $6. It felt like a relatively small portion for $6 (you get 3 kinda thin pieces) but also just not enough sauce for me. However the sauce was really tasty and the tofu was cooked very well. If you get it, I would recommend a bit of extra sauce for it. I will say though that I don't eat a ton of tofu so it might be more worth the price than I realize.
The Takoyaki was DELICIOUS to be perfectly honest. It tasted really good. Unfortunately I was not able to continue eating it. I have Sensory Processing Disorder which effects my ability to eat some foods over texture. Sadly the drastic contrast between the softness inside the Takoyaki and the octopus activated my gag reflex so I could not finish the dish. I gave it to a friend after we left though and she loved it. They were cooked very well, texture of the actual ball it's self was great, and the flavor was good. I just couldn't handle the octopus (I need to see if they can make it without the octopus next time).
The star of the apps though was the Sesame Balls. OMG THEY ARE SO GOOD! They are actually a dessert. They aren't salty, they are sweet. Not over bareingly so though. Like just the perfect amount. They were so good that I told my hubs that if he ever wants to surprise me with a treat to head to this place and get me some sesame balls to go. You get 6 of them for the $6. They ARE rather small, but omg they are worth the money. I loved them so much. HIGHLY recommend them.
Now I couldn't give them the full 5 stars because when our Ramen came out it did seem like it could have been hotter. It wasn't cold by any means. It was hot. It just seemed like it wasn't as hot as it should be. Also for some reason we got the tofu... then immediately the ramen... and we were half way through the ramen before we got our other two apps. I DO chalk this up to the fact that it is a new resturant though and the staff seemed rather under pressure and maybe a bit overwhelmed with how many people were in the resturant (we went on a sunday at 6:30pm).
I'm sure these are all things that will be ironed out the longer they are here. So give the staff a bit of grace guys and understand they are just getting into the swing of things. Waiter was ON TOP of our drinks the whole night. The food was delicious. The prices are fair.
If you want to try something new I'd say head on over there when you can and if you like Japanese food than I don't see you being disappointed.
