“This was my first visit to any Japanese restaurant and Sumo by Nambara gave me a great experience and taste of authentic food. The entrance lobby is spacious and the service was superb. The staff was attentive and courteous. The interior is bit crammed but the seating was comfortable. The person who attended us and served food also cooked it right in front of us by entertaining with fire tricks. This was a memorable experience.”

“Giving it 4 stars only because of the very nice waitress, otherwise it's been 3 stars at best. Here's the good and the bad. Restrooms weren't clean, trash was overflowing. There was soap and towels. The spoons...please tell me why you have to ask for a spoon. Crazy, had my soup but could not find a spoon anywhere. So I ask, and at first I thought I was being ignored but then the person produced from under the cash register area a full set of plastic cutlery. Complete with napkin, salt & pepper packets and a spoon, fork and knife. So while I was happily eating my soup a waitress shows up and ask if I was the one needing a spoon. Said yes I was but I now have this fine piece of plastic and I'll manage quite alright. But she insist and goes to where the drinks are and comes back with a small packet that actually had 2 metal spoons. I was pretty much done with my soup by then. Oh and I got to help another customer out when I heard him talking about not finding a spoon, I shared the info that at this place you have to request a spoon.which he did and he received. The overall impression of the place was that the building was tired. It just wasn't a bright shiny place to eat. The good...the food was ok, nothing wrong with the food, not great but just ok. Salad was crisp, always a good sign. The soup I had was good but my steak was not freshly cooked, barely warm. And our waitress, Meroset (not quite right but close) she is the waitress you hope to find everywhere. We enjoyed her attention and service which were nicely rewarded. She's good, really good. The basics, plenty of free parking with full handicap access inside and out.”

“I love their combo fried rice. It may be the best in town. It has lots of protein, the rice is always perfectly cooked, lots of egg, and I have them make it medium hot --just right. The portion in the carry out container is generous enough for me to get two meals from it. I will say they are a bit stingy with their condiments and you have to ask for them if you are getting carry out from the window, which I usually do. The price is also very reasonable. Try it, you won't be disappointed.”

“Important Update, March 16th 2020.... after we submitted this review, Corporate headquarters contacted us and let us know that they were checking into the issue. They then provided coupons for two meals so that we could go back and try them a second time. We have been out of town and could not go back until today. Very glad we did. Everything was fantastic. Service still awesome, and food was flawless. For this reason I have removed the negative pics and added fresh pics and videos. It is now one of my favorite places. Thank you team, good job. Our first visit. The service at the counter and at our table was very good. Very clean eating area. My chicken jalapeno crunch sandwich was great, the chicken salad was great also EXCEPT for all of the wilted lettuce on them. One of the signs in the store tells of "Crisp Greens" Woops! Check out the photos. We will try them again, maybe it was just a bad day, the greens were not crisp at all, they had brown wilted areas on them.”

The food is slightly higher quality than Zoe’s and some other chains, or it just tasted a little better. They have switched to paper straws which is great. Keep up the good work and get rid of the rest of the single use plastics in your store while you’re at it! The prices are reasonable with most options priced around $10. There wasn’t a stand out dish and the food wasn’t unique or a standout in flavor or concept. More information about where the ingredients are sourced from, a push for organic and free range meats, or a tie to the local economy would make this place 5 star. As it is, it’s just an above average chain.”
