The food was pretty good; you know, diner food. It was fun to sit at the bar and watch the guy behind the counter cook our food on the grill. If you're into that kind of stuff, it's kind of cool.
The vibe was creepy though. We dubbed this the "Stephen King Diner" on our trip because we just couldn't shake the feeling that something was off in there. We asked another person in the town about it, and she knew exactly what I was talking about.
I was done though when I looked over and saw the server was fist-deep in his nose digging for gold and then observing what he found. It's a no from me, dawg.
Head over to the Farmhouse. They're on the same lot and a lot less creepy.
Great breakfast, classic diner experience. Quite possibly the fluffiest pancakes I've ever had. Well worth getting off 70 to experience Penny's!
The lady working at the moment was very nice, we ordered breakfast and it was very good, definitely worth stopping at.
I was on my way to the IHOP at the TA in Oakley, Ks. when a little resturant populated my gps. So, while I was stopped streching my legs, I looked it up; it did not show up on google. But, I discovered this joint.
The food was very good. The pancakes, although the mix is derived from a food service company, were cooked to perfection. The cakes had a nice fluffy texture. They were better than IHOP pancakes. The picture speaks for itself.
To boot this eatery is open 24 hours. On the one down side, due to only having one grill operable, they serve only breakfast fare from midnight to 10:00 AM. There is another amenity worth considering but one can discover that on their own if they chose to stop.
