Hunan Chinese Restaurant

Food was really good and fast. They're big on traditional Chinese food not just buffet style foods which was really cool. And the portions are huge. The ladies are really nice as well.

Hunan has been around for decades in a town that rarely sees restaurants last that long. Hunan has long been regarded as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Lexington. As of late they seem to have some issues though on the weekends. A couple times the chef(s) would show up late or not at all. They've also recently done away with their Sunday buffet which was a Lexington tradition of sorts.

The building is definitely showing it's age but the interior dining area is still nice and gives off a cozy dining experience that you just don't find in a Chinese restaurant these days.

Despite the inadequacies, their food (when someone shows up to make it) is still really quite good and you rarely get a "meh" meal when there.

Hunan to me seems to be on the tipping point of greatness again or being run into the ground. Only time will tell which way it leans.

I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn nearby Hunan. It came highly recommended by some local friends & I am so glad we tried it. I just called in my order & walked over to picked it up.

We ordered the sweet & sour chicken combo & Mongolian beef. They had it ready in 10 minutes & everything was fresh & hot. They accidentally forgot my egg drop soup & they came straight over & delivered to me. I have been craving there food ever since!

In this age of buffets and nondescript Chinese food that all tastes of pre-prepared and processed food, Hunan is a refreshing and delicious anomaly. It is Chinese food prepared the old fashioned way with fresh ingredients and a chef who has experience that didn't come from Lexington. Well done Hunan. Bravo.

People should really give this place a second or third chance because the new owner and chef is AMAZING! Also Mr. Li is very nice and dedicated, and they serve REAL Chinese food, just ask for the special menu. The place also looks amazing inside.
