This place is a jewel. I walked in to blank walls and fresh paint, since Alwatan (the previous restaurant) closed, it was an abrupt difference. There was a bright and cheerful lady standing next to the counter with an assortment of hot trays of West African food. I asked what the dishes were and found that they were serving three different rice dishes including jollof. There were a few different chicken dishes, okra stew and yassa which I ordered. Additionally, there was another business partner in the back making Lebanese food, who seemed to be carrying on the Alwatan torch who made my father a lamb gyro. They don't have a formal menu yet and still are getting started. Ask questions. Order what looks or sounds good and you will be rewarded with amazing food. The jollof rice was out of this world and the chicken dishes were perfectly spiced. The okra stew had some serious heat too which was appreciated. A full salad and two baklava comes with any meal you order, which is also great. I hope this place succeeds because this is some of the most delicious West African food I have had in the entire region, making it a great addition to the international food scene that this area of Louisville is becoming.
