Old-fashioned family-owned diner type business. The BBQ is usually served on toasted sliced bread, but you can have a bun if you want. The place was packed with customers but we were seated quickly. Service was very friendly and quick. Definitely no frills, just very good BBQ.
This place is the real deal -- not a weak imitation and not a chain restaurant (like too many BBQ places). Excellent food. Good prices. Simple menu. Open Tuesday thru Saturday only. Clean bathrooms. Service is mostly counter-style, there are a couple of tables. Food is mostly wrapped in paper or served in disposable containers. Overall feeling is positive. Popular place. There are neat stacks of clean firewood in the back, and smoke emanating from the chimney -- two good signs.
I tried the pork sandwich and beef sandwich -- both excellent. Also, the potato salad and slaw sides tasted good.
There is a reason this place is packed all the time. Simple menu featuring smoked meat sandwiches and meat by the pound. Utterly mouthwatering BBQ sandwiches pressed on a grill with their own magnificent sauce. It is a stole in this town for a reason. Very inexpensive. Sandwiches are a bit small so I suggest getting two. Best in town!
Starnes is an old school 1950s style BBQ sandwich diner. They have a really small menu, which consists of about five different kinds of meat, all served on grilled white bread. The menu also has potato salad and coleslaw. They have their own BBQ sauce which they will put on the sandwiches or serve it on the side. All their food is delicious, although the pulled pork was a little dry. The ham is off the charts good.
I didn't know they opened at 8 am. Great little counter restaurant. A Paducah landmark. Great sandwiches.. Family restaurant with pictures of the kids on the wall. Everyone is kind. Chips, potato salad or Cole slaw. Very basic but very good. I actually met Goose Givens from the 1978 championship team there once
