Houmas House and Gardens

A beautiful plantation. Amazing gardens and architecture. 3 great restaurants and a bar.

A must see. Bring a camera. don't complain about the heat if you stay in the shade it's very pleasant. You can spring the $14 for the garden tour it is certainly worth it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this historic site! If I could give more I’d give it a perfect 10! This has been the most informative plantation yet that I’ve visited here in Louisiana. The place is just gorgeous (and huge!).

Our tour guide, Suzanna, was by far the best I’ve had the pleasure of listening to. She was so very knowledgeable, sweet, funny and answered every single question we asked. It was VERY apparent that she enjoyed her job, sharing so much history.

The gardens were beautiful!! And the oak trees were the oldest, most beautiful that I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen them ALL over!) We spent over 3 hours touring the grounds and mansion and I wish we could’ve stayed even longer! We were even allowed to take our dogs through the property which was such a relief!

I cannot say enough about Houmas House!! It’s a MUST SEE historic site and worth every single penny!! Our next stop is Whitney Plantation, which was advertised at Houmas House, to learn about both historical accounts during this era. Hope you enjoyed learning about Houmas House as much as we did!!

Spent the day there with friends. Totally enjoyed strolling the gardens. So clean and well kept! Everyone was friendly and accommodating. We toured the house, our tour guide, Sandy, was awesome. She was quick to answer any question and full of information. This place is a paradise rich in history. We then enjoyed cocktails in the Turtle Bar before eating at the Carriage House. The meal was perfectly delicious. Houmas House is the perfect place to get away. Highly recommend, I will be back!!

We had a wonderful experience. The carriage house was a lovely place to have an amazing lunch. The white chocolate bread pudding was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The grounds were lovely and plenty to see. The tour was informative and led by a great tour guide. This experience was different than other plantations I've toured, but definetly worth the money.
