Didn't feel much like cooking so decided to try this restaurant. My partners favorite is always beef and broccoli so I ordered it, a large Wonton soup, and a pork lo mein. The beef and broccoli was delicious. Tender beef, perfectly cooked broccoli and lots of sauce to go with the side of white rice. The pork lo mein was very good too. It had huge slices of pork in it, thin noodles and a generous shake of fresh chopped green onions on top. Great flavor and both had large portions. The won ton soup was good but I felt the broth lacked a depth in flavor and it needed a bit more Napa cabbage. All in all we would definitely order from here again. We didn't feel over salted and bloated like we do when we eat other Chinese foods.
In a town strip mall, China Golden has a nicely decorated, clean interior, with helpful wait staff. I ordered Mandarin Chicken with Steamed Rice, which was good, but typical of what one finds at standard Chinese restaurants. I'd return. RJT
Ordered 2 Lomein lunches with shrimp fried rice and egg roll. The portions were very generous but the food lacks flavor. Specifically the shrimp fried rice which had a smidge of egg and shrimp, but no onions, green onions, peas or seasonings...can't taste the sesame seed oil its supposed to be fried in either. the Lomein had some flavor but it could be better. Would like to see them work on their recipes so hopefully they can be around for a while.
I drove past Golden China and realized a new restaurant has opened in Laplace. I noticed the now open sign hanging in front and made plans to give them a try. We have quite a few Chinese restaurants in Laplace, so I was hoping this one would be a little different from the rest (perhaps a buffet or some hibachi to order). I was going to stop by on Sunday and headed to the restaurant at about 6:30 pm. It was closed! I am guessing they don't open on Sundays, but maybe they closed early or maybe the were just closed this Sunday.
So, Monday came and I thought I would try again. My family and I arrived at the restaurant at about 7:15 and was immediately seated (there was only one other family in the restaurant). We looked at the menu and I ordered the General Tso Chicken Dinner with shrimp fried rice and an eggroll and my daughter ordered the Honey Chicken Dinner also with the shrimp fried rice and eggroll. I was looking for a small order of lo mein to try, but that was not an available option, you had order a plate which would have been between $11-$14 so I passed.
The egg rolls were brought out first. They had shrimp inside and tasted ok. I paired the eggroll with some of the in house made duck sauce which was pretty good. Next the entrees came out. The portion sizes are really large. We each received a plate full of chicken and a bowl of shrimp fried rice. The chicken was very saucy (maybe a little to much) but didn't have much flavor. The honey chicken lacked the honey taste and the General Tso Chicken usually has some spice to it, but this one did not. The shrimp fried rice was really good and was my favorite part of the meal.
The service was also good. All in all I thought the whole experience was just average and I honestly would not be in a rush to return. I wasn't wowed enough to make this my new Chinese stop especially with the many other similar options we have here in Laplace.
