Nice quaint little diner with most of its seating in the back behind the actual train car front facade. There’s a good chance of a wait but the wait is worth it for the incredible breakfast food you get. Everything a ordered came out great and the specials all sounded amazing. The price wasn’t bad either, with my total being much less than I originally expected going in.
This diner is a rare find! Worcester Lunch Car No. 818.
The food is exceptionally good, way above average and what you would expect from a long established (Since 1949) fixture in the Portland landscape. Very clean, well maintained. I had sausage and eggs, cooked to order and they exceeded my expectations. Wonder if Diners, Drive-ins and Dives have shot this location yet. Perky, attentive and bubbly waitstaff. A diamond and a jewel. If you’re over in the Old Port and stuck for parking and long lines at Becky’s Diner, by all means cross over the hill to here. It’s conveniently located between Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Eastern Mountain Sports. Make a day of it. Easy access to I-295, exit 7. Definitely coming here again and making this a regular stop. Good prices, open Mon - Sun.
There is parking, which is great. The wait at peak brunch hour on Sunday was only about 20-30 minutes, but they definitely did not have enough staff working and service was understandable scattered and slow. I had the corned beef hash Benedict, since the menu made a point of calling out how good the house-made corned beef hash is. While it was fine, I would not order it again. The hash is shredder, not chopped, has not real color, and was very bland, not even particularly salty. The English muffin was fluffy and tender but the hollandaise sauce had split a little. The side home fries were well seasoned but a few bites were slightly undercooked. My friend had the Thai omelette and liked it. Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is unpretentious.
This is a marvelous place. The servers were kind, interesting, and efficient. The food was delicious. Even the toast was extra tasty. This is a modest gem.
Great little diner. Everything you would expect. Good coffee and great food. Indoor seating in a classic dining car, also booths and outdoor seating for the warmer months. Serving ingredients from local Maine area businesses. Also there are coffee cups for purchase as an awesome souvenir!
