Julep Southern Kitchen & Bar

Checked out Julep with a few of my girl friends to scope out if they would be able to host a birthday party. The service was excellent, especially considering how busy they were. The food and cocktail turn around time was SO fast - we seriously don't know how they did it. Our server, Nick, was knowledgeable, hilarious and the MVP of the night. The fried green tomatoes were crispy and had a yummy spiced spread on top. The pecan smoked wings were delicious and the pepper jam jelly complimented the buttery biscuits perfectly. I'd recommend the Gold Rush Cocktail or the Mint Julep as both were excellent. Room for improvement would be the bar management for people in the bar area - it was like being a sardine in a can and fighting against the waves to get to and from the bathroom or even exit the building since there were SO many people drinking, hanging out and eating in the walking area. The bathroom could also use some TLC - I could see the dust on the mop boards and the trash cans were overflowing. Other than that, everything was excellent.

I tried Julep for the first time over the weekend. We were seated promptly. However, it took about 10-15 minutes for our waiter to come. The Strawberry Lemonade crush is refreshing and a nice twist on the traditional crush. We both ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs. The ribs were tender and tasty. Out of the sides we tried, the collard greens and sweet potatoes were the best. When the owner, Bob, came to our table we expressed how much we liked the greens. We were surprised to find out that they are seasoned with chicken. I initially ordered the green beans and ended up getting the collard greens instead. The mac n cheese was seasoned well. The Oreo ice cream is great and a definite must try. I'll definitely be back again.

We went here for a birthday dinner for my wife and her grandmother. There was six of us in our party. Our server did a great job he wasn't around as much because they were very busy but when he was there he got us exactly what we needed while having a nice demeanor.

The menu looked delicious although some thought the menu was smaller than they would have liked. All of us were very impressed with how the food was presented. It looked great.

However while the food was tasty nothing really stood out as delicious except for the cream of crab soup. All of us are foodies and we seemed to agree the dishes were missing something in the flavor department.

Overall really good but not great.

The consensus was we'd all like to give it another shot and enjoyed ourselves but we didn't think it was a place we would be chomping at the bit to return to.

Went here for my birthday dinner with three other people and it was a hit. Wings were fantastic. The crab dip had a very good flavor and definitely satisfied my craving. I had chicken fried steak, which was nicely done. My husband had the "fried" chicken and it was delicious. He seemed to enjoy his collard greens as well. My mother really enjoyed her shrimp and grits and ate the whole thing. My friend got the bbq pork sandwich, which she knows and loves from the hideaway. We finished with key lime pie, which was lovely. My only two critiques was that the mashed potatoes were not great, but the other food was good enough to not lose a star. I also wish that a vegetable without pork was added. Seeing how this is southern food this was expected though.
