La Vela Italian Restaurant

La Vela is easily the best restaurant on the island. There's a handful of good restaurants in southern md I would recommend to people and this is number two after one visit. We started with the Burrata which was delicious- I just wish I had more balsamic. For entrees I ordered the mignon, it was perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth and had a delicious demi glaze. My boyfriend had the linguini 7 fishes. Equally delicious and the portions did not disappoint. For dessert we shared an espresso martini and tiramisu. The martini was smooth with hints of chocolate and the tiramisu was so fresh with hazelnut on top. The restaurant is rather small so I don't recommend for large parties- I also didn't see an elevator and the bathrooms are on the main level where the restaurant is up a level of stairs. As I mentioned, best on the island by far. We'll be back!

The food is out of this world and this is only the second night it’s been open!
We can not say enough about how absolutely delicious every single thing we had was on the menu. The Calamari, Grande Meatbolla, cream of crab, fettuccini zaferano and chicken parmigiana; all of them absolutely amazing!! Spot on!
And don’t forget the Limoncello Blush!! Yum!

Despite being in its opening week, La Vela has instantly become one of the finest restaurant choices in Solomons. Offering a refreshing injection of alternative cuisine for the local area, La Vela appears to pride itself on serving up fine food in a comfortable environment at palatable prices.

Resisting my urge to order one of everything, I tried the porchetta panini with the apple strudel for dessert, but not before stealing bites of penne caprese and fettucine bolognese from the plates around me. Each mouthful was better than the last: packed full of flavor, light but rich, and delicately balancing firm and soft textures for a rewardingly dynamic profile.

Considering the newness of the restaurant, some of the servers appeared to be unfamiliar with items on the menu which lead to a few moments of confusion. However, witnessing their enthusiasm in discovering the dishes alongside the patrons reassured me that their excitable recommendations and opinions on our choices were genuine and infectious - without which, my wife would not have discovered the 'best cream of crab on the island'.

I have no doubt that La Vela will become a landmark in the local community and, it is for that reason that I am both pleased and disappointed: pleased that I was able to engage with the restaurant from opening, and disappointed that as more relish in its warm environment, the harder it will be for me to get a table!
