The freshest salad bar I've ever seen. I couldn't go to the store and make it myself and be that top notch freshness. The chowder was some of the best I've ever had.. It was a unique flavor.. Good till the last spoon! Prices are, I guess, moderate for these parts.. But the service, food quality, and decent portions made if a great experience for us. Would definitely return if ever back thru here.
Really good. I had the Filet Mignon and it was delicious. The shrimp cockrail was good and there is a good salad bar. The service was fast and friendly. The environment is clean.
We've been coming to Van Rensselaer's for a long time. THE best salad bar we've ever had...anywhere. Clam chowder delicious. One of my favorite entrees is the chef's 3 fish special & today it was salmon, swordfish & scallops. I consider myself a pretty good cook but the seafood I buy in Central NY can't compete with the freshness here on the Cape. 'Van Ren's' is a must stop.
The food we had was really good. I had the cod early bird special, with a light panko coating. With the included salad bar, which was excellent, I had plenty to eat in spite of the smaller portion. My wife had the salmon and really liked it as well. Decent local craft beer selection. I had chocolate mousse cake for dessert, also excellent. The service was good - attentive without hovering.
My family and I travel a lot and as a result, we all developed a taste for great food. This place has that. Can't complain about the service either.
Kids had shrimp scampi and seafood linguini. The shrimp wasn't the tiny floppy things you find in some places. They were jumbo sized and cooked perfectly. The lobster my mother had was sweet. The salmon I ordered was a bit dry but acceptable. The sides made up for it though.
And now I see why the parking lot was practically full despite it being off season.
