I'm pumped Kinfolks moved into the Target plaza right near our house. We've eaten the 3-meat combo a few times now (chicken, ribs, brisket) and it's been consistently delicious. It's SO MUCH food. Definitely enough for 2 adults ... works out to like $11 a person — a fair price.
Not a big fried chicken person, but their fried chicken is amazing, crunchy on the outside hot and juicy on the inside. Love their fall off the bone ribs. Beware they use a dry rub only and serve BBQ sauce on the side. Not a big fan of the collard greens or hush puppies, but the Mac and cheese is super ultra rich and very decadent. Great having good BBQ in town.
I have high hopes for this new location, but I’m a bit worried that quality has gone down a bit. The pulled pork I recently had was very dry, which is unusual for Kinfolks.
Maybe most disappointing of all is the lack of fried chicken. I always understood why it took 30 minutes (literally, not an exaggeration) to make fried chicken in their food truck with such limited space, but why don’t they have fresh chicken available during lunch or dinner hours? That doesn’t make sense, especially when “fried chicken” is part of the name now! When I asked one of the employees if they ever have fresh fried chicken available ready to purchase, she said it’s still always a 30 minute wait. She said you can call ahead, but it’s not very convenient compared to having fresh chicken available during the busy hours.
Sylvester runs an amazing business, and I hope the dip in quality and available food is just temporary. I wish him the best!
