Love this place. Lots of history here. Its debated whether Edgar Allan Poe ever spent time here but even without that it offers historic value none the less. Prohibition panels behind the bar, the fans on an pulley system built in the 1800's and the old world charm of a building built in the industrial era of the United states. Worth the visit. If your interested in Americana history I highly recommend visiting.
At first glance Worthen House Cafe reminds of any dive bar, dark and cool, however; this did not detract from the quality of the food. We all ordered the crispy Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with sweet potato fries for lunch. The sandwich was topped lightly with buffalo sauce and blue cheese.
While this is not personal place of choice, I attended a Spoken Word night at Worthen House, with my cousin, as he presented some of his writings. I will say the Open Mike nights are wonderful.
Awesome pub with classic wood panelling and a really cool ceiling fan arrangement. I can't describe it, you just have to go and see it. Nice staff, great tequilas and also it's the oldest bar in Lowell
A historical local tavern, the Worthen is worth a stop. Great pub food, not fancy, but of good quality and reasonable. The antique interior with its unique fan system and pictures makes the interior warm, worn and friendly. And it has its own parking lot.
Go, you will like it.
