Saddleback BBQ

Extremely tender brisket with a great smoke ring and beautiful crust. Wonderful balance of flavor and fat on the pieces I was given. This is right up there with the greats from Austin, Texas.

I haven't been to the Okemos location yet, but this one is amazing! We moved here four years ago, and I remember when they first opened! I finally got myself a t-shirt this year during their anniversary event! I hope they do a turquoise next year! That's my favorite color! Unfortunately, they didn't have my size, but it will encourage me to drop some surgery weight for next year! If you're short on cash, but want the BBQ experience, I highly recommend their cornbread and one of the platters to share with a friend. The only thing I wish was if they had more vegetarian options. Every time we go, I am always eating, but the only thing my wife eats is the mac and cheese and cornbread. Other than that, the pork, the brisket, the ribs and the side dishes are great! The only thing I haven't tried is chicken. I need to do that sometime!

Update: Fountain Place did a catering order from Saddleback BBQ and I was able to try the baked beans, coleslaw, and the chicken! Finally! As. always, amazing customer service and the food is wonderful!

My favorite item there are the ribs. They are done with a dry rub but with lots of flavor. The meat didn't fall off the bone as much as I'd like but they were still very good. Other things I've tried include the brisket and the chicken, which are also good.Most of the sides I had were good too including the Corncakes, Beans, and Mac n Cheese. I would personally pass on the collard greens and pork rinds though.

I've been to all the BBQ places in the Lansing area and Saddleback stands above them all. The service is impeccable, very friendly staff. The BBQ ribs and brisket are smoked just right along with the seasonings/rub. Took my daughter's there today and we had a fantastic time sitting outside in the sun. Also I should add, the bathroom is modern and super clean. Something I can be picky about when reviewing a restaurant. I recommend to all who are looking for good BBQ at a fair price.

I have had both the brisket and chicken here. Both were very good. Good flavor and the chicken was moist not dried out. In addition the sides are very good, not to mention being from the south they have sweet tea. It seems like Lansing has no shortage of barbecue places. We tried them out and were suitably impressed. Good solid smoky flavors. Generous portions. Pleasant servers.
