The moment we walked in, we were happy with the choice we made to eat there. You could just feel the love and professionalism that went into the interior of the place and it was beautiful. Our waitress was kind and patient, even gave us some good suggestions. We were both surprised and satisfied with the food because for the first time, a restaurant that claimed to sell soul food actually did and it was delicious especially the catfish.
You are first welcomed by the warmest staff when walking in this progressive and current restaurant. I love that, I love a staff that smiles and is truly glad that you're there. But we were the lucky ones. Our waitress was so helpful, smiling and truly a delight. But the food. Holy Cow. Everything ordered in our party of 4 was delicious, cooked exactly as ordered with a few surprises along the way, like their beer mayonnaise for the burger and to dip your fries (thick, hand cut). Chicken and waffles stuffed with mac and cheese!!! Gumbo, catfish, even the burger, oh and don't forget the pork shank. The whole experience of this Soul Kitchen was one we want again. I would come here anytime.
This is one of my new go-to restaurants in GR! It's all of your favorite comfort foods but with a great twist. I LOVE that there is so much to do on the food & drink menu with cognac, definitely unique. I am a vegetarian and loved that even though comfort foods are usually associated with meats, they had a ton of options for me to choose from! Our waiter (cannot remember his name) was fantastic, such a sweet heart.
I went out to Forty Acres Soul Food Kitchen tonight and had a great time! Besides the good company I had tonight I got a chance to meet the chef...and the food was amazing! what a great place to eat. The food was delicious! The drinks were strong and the hostess was stunningly beautiful. This is the only full service black owned restaurant in Grand Rapids Michigan. I love to shop, spend, and eat local. The ambiance was perfect and I loved the music there. Our waitress was great! Seriously, what more could you ask for.......nothing! ????????
