If you love sushi and sake, this is a nice little spot to come and hang out, or get a pick up order from. I enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar and watching my food being prepared while sipping my cold sake. The food is great and presentation is stunning.
Next time, I'll be trying there sushi burritos.
Definitely my favorite sushi place in Grand Rapids, and I've tried almost all of them. It has a cool atmosphere, decent prices, great quality and big portions! You can sit up at the sushi bar and watch the chefs make magical rolls, or cozy up next to the faux fire. Even the presentation of the food will make you smile!
If you like top notch sushi, do yourself a favor and check them out. They are close to the movie theater on the East Beltline, so they make for a great dinner spot before or after seeing a movie.
5/12/19 Update: If I could add another star or two, I would. I visited this location for Mother's Day and my mom had a medical issue during our visit (she's fine now). The staff's attentive response and understanding was incredible. They were completely understanding in regards to the situation and in no way acted 'put out' by the inconvenience of tying up the table or the paramedics arriving. I forgot to pay when leaving to follow the ambulance, but when I called the next day to pay, I was told the bill was taken care of and to enjoy the rest of mother's day. All the staff that night deserve praise and I greatly appreciate everything they did.
Jaku is a great restaurant for special occasions. Price wise, it's reasonable for the quality and ambiance, but a bit more than I'd pay for a "lunch every day" meal. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious and worth the cost. Their hot meals are great and the sushi is high quality.
They have a wide, creative array of sushi that make return trips a must.
Great modern atmosphere. Service was just slightly slow but it was a busy Saturday night so it was understandable. Friendly staff. Extensive menu. Everyone but myself in my group got sushi burritos and enjoyed them. I prefer regular sushi. I ordered a salmon roll and a mixed veggie tempura roll. A great value for $5 each and the tempura roll was substantial. Delicious! We had our 10 month old and I was disappointed with the highchair; the belt could not be fastened due to a tight knot in it so we had to watch her close and she still almost fell once. Not enough of a bother to lower my rating for this excellent sushi.
Why does everyone want to go to Jaku!? Amazing sushi! From their very basic rolls, to the specialty ones, everything is delicious! I got my husband to try their Michigan specialty roll a year or so ago at their other location because he was afraid to try sushi, and he loved it! Now, thanks to them, he's branched out and is enjoying more and more types. We order take out from here a lot, but finally went in and sat down. Everyone is really friendly and the atmosphere is very modern but comfortable and relaxed. The tea was excellent as well! I highly recommend
