Hello, I would give the resort 4.5 stars. (improvement ideas)
LODGING - 5 stars. Non pretentious motel/hotel with comfortable rooms, 2 pools, hot tub, bar, continental breakfast (add fresh fruit?). The staff was very friendly and helpful.
CANTHOOKE VALLEY - One of my golf partners complained about all of the trees. Duh, Manistee National Forest... it has lots of trees! I'd give CV 3.5 stars. Very good condition but very tight. The white tees were a little long for us old guys. Gold were too close. Heard on course - 'Another 412 yard par 4... Three 3 woods and I'm there'!
CUTTER RIDGE - I loved this golf course. So beautiful and so natural looking. Reviews say it's among toughest in state. Maybe from the blacks, but from the whites it was very playable. There was the occasional rough spot on a fairway or green, but overall in great condition. 4.5 stars.
THE RESTAURANT - Very good food. Brisket Tacos and Walleye were excellent. Salmon was good but a tiny portion (1/3 the size of other Samon dinners I'd had). Veggies were so/so. 3.5 stars
THE SCORECARD - A combination of Canthooke and Cutters left no room for hole illustrations. Because of this many pre-shot cart trips were required to see what was over the hill or around the bend. (Separate score cards with hole illustrations please). 1 star.
VALUE 5 stars. We had a group golfer coupon. We added one night stay which allowed us to play another off resort course. The group golfer coupon was $89.00 for one night and two rounds. A great value!
Can't beat the golf course it was in great shape workers were all very polite and helpful just an all around great atmosphere...
Great Course. Played there in a charity tourney. It was well maintained and kept up. There are two courses there, I played the wider one. There was no obvious driving range present either. The food options were okay but not great. Overall, would go back and give it another try, it was a very beautiful course.
This is definitely a destination spot in northern Michigan. Excellent conditions of the golf course. The wanagan Grille is excellent for their food. It would be worth staying a night or two at the hotel and enjoying all of their amenities.
