In the two years that I've been here in SE Michigan, I've hit most of the reputable BBQ spots, and overall, Lockhart's is the tastiest. (Yes, it's better than Slows.) Some are a better value, and some have better individual dishes or individual meats, but this place is consistently good on the whole. Best dish I've had so far is the Mac-n-Cheese Shepherd's Pie. Wait time and service are small issues, so don't go on a Friday night and expect to be seated in less than 10 minutes. Still, worth the wait.
UPDATE (July 2019): Recently visited again...food quality has dipped.
We visited on Mother's Day. DELICIOUS food! Great staff! Great music! Nice atmosphere. Clean! Expected to wait... only a few minutes! Wow! ????
We ordered the dinner for four. It was delicious. However, there was more than enough food for three thirty somethings and a senior citizen. I would definitely recommend Lockhart's for BBQ.
Would recommend the saddle brisket burger. The staff is really nice and great. The food was good, they have a decent selection of beer. It's clean and has a nice atmosphere.
The Mac and cheese was very bland. Probably the worst I've had. Beans were good. The meat was nice, but again, under seasoned. They had four sauces on the table: two sweet barbecue, one sweet and one mustard based. Nothing spicy or vinegar based. The two barbecues tasted similar. The lack of sauces and seasoning was disappointing. Overall it was "okay"... Not a must go destination, but not terrible.
