Very unique restaurant and experience for a fair price. Jeff is great and so is his family. This is not a typical/fast food/chinese take out restaurant. It is a really cool set up but you need to be prepared to plan and make reservations ahead of time. You place your order the day before and food is made to order on the day of. Food also takes a while to get to your table, but all you need is a little patience. I remember the first time I ate here. We had informed Jeff earlier that I was a vegetarian and he walked out to our table after we were seated holding an egg in his hand to ask me if he could add it to the vegetarian soup. To me as a vegetarian, that is the most considerate behavior I have witnessed from a chef. Would definitely recommend. Tip - Dont go in with expectations based on other restaurants.

Do not be turned off by bad reviews. Jeff has a huge restaurant and only allows (3) parties at a time because he is the only one cooking the food. Someone in the family will go out the day of and get all the items to make your meal. You must make a reservation for these reasons. I know nothing about Shanghai style food, but by ordering off the menu and looking at the pictures on yelp, google, etc. you can figure it out. Tell Jeff what you are looking for and he will make it. The food is well worth the money. This is high end Chinese food at a fair price. I have never experienced slow service but its worth it. Order an appetizer/soup and you won't wait as long to start eating.

Phenomenal food! Note: you have to have a reservation to get a table (at least for dinner). Because the chef makes everything fresh when you order it, you should order your meal at least one day in advance if you want something specific. Otherwise, you only eat what he has on hand. Expensive but definitely worth it! You are the only people to sit at your table all night, so you get to spend as long as you want and are not rushed at all. We loved the fried buns, soup dumplings, and crystal shrimp (pictured).

The chef, Jeff, is a true artist. One would be happy to eat this well in Shanghai.

Reservations are a must, he only prepares food for those he knows is coming. If you don't have a Shanghainese in your group, ask for the chef's recommendation when you order over the phone.
