Cool spot, very busy but still efficient. Hope they find s new location since they are scheduled to close down soon. The Tuna Melt was amazing!
It is dreadful that this institution of scrumptiousness will soon be closing. Hopefully they will try and make a start somewhere near. Thank you for the many, many years of great foot and great service.
Russell's street deli. Reuben sandwich yummy, is what you expect. The steak and egg scrambler nice idea. The taste of Detroit style New England clam chowder, I didnt not like, it was heavy on Fresh Dill, spicy finish and a feel of home made soup. I'll need to go back and sample the New York style again. Only slight criticism little over priced. I will go back..
This is the kind of place every town should have. We travel a lot, and we like to go where the locals go. Chain restaurants don't interest us. Russell Street Deli is a true gem; an institution. Everyone is welcomed and there are no reservations. In fact, all tables are communal, so take the inside seats and you'll be joined by the next party. People talk to each other, and with others. The food is all done in house, and is to a high standard. The soups are legendary, and available in Whole Foods. The model is farm to table, and it works. Unfortunately a new building owner is forcing out established businesses with egregious lease increases or other predatory demands. The deli will be closing in late September. Take advantage while you can.
Had the red beans and rice and Tuna Melt for lunch. They have some of the best soup around. Homemade from scratch. Real Deli style sandwiches. And this place is in what I think is 1 of the coolest parts of town, Eastern Market!
