Finally made a good decision, and stopped in for lunch, fried cat fish was hot and mouthwatering, seasoned cornmeal and fried to perfection. Must have yams and mac and cheese. I wait in anticipation to try more of their food. Priced appropriately, they cook with their soul and you can tell.
Food is fantastic. Greens are good. Chicken wings are seasoned and cooked to perfection and I absolutely love the honey butter role. As my mom would say “The food is so good that is makes you wanna reach out and slap yo momma”!
Only issue I had was when I ate food from here the first time. My mom ordered me a chicken thigh and leg and the chicken was over cooked and dry. But it Was still seasoned well so it wasn’t too terrible. Will definitely be back though.
This place is legit soul. I have never had homemade level food like this from a restaurant. Had the fried pork chops, baked mac and cheese, greens with smoked turkey and red beans and rice. All of it amazing. I would give it 10 stars.
After trying almost everything on the menu I'm going to go ahead and give RCK the best soul food in the Twin Cities award. Expect to spend about $15 per person for a combo dinner (meat and two sides). There are a few tables to eat-in, but most patrons take their order to-go. The meats are cooked fresh, so expect to wait about 20-minutes for walk-in orders. That's not a problem if you plan for it and that freshness gives RCK the flavor edge. The smothered pork chop is done to perfection. The sides that traditionally have meat flavoring (greens, cabbage, red beans & rice, etc.) are cooked with smoked turkey. The result is a healthier alternative without losing taste.
This is a small, family-run business, so I recommend calling ahead to make sure they're open as they do close for holidays and catering events.
I will continue to support this business and recommend that you do as well.
This place was one of the best soul food restaurants I have had thus far in the Midwest. Everything was fresh, cooked from scratch and most things were made to order. Mac & cheese was on point and well seasoned. I had fried wings, catfish red beans & rice and Mac and everything was great! They give u very large portions for your money’s worth. Great place. I plan to come back if I’m in Minnesota again.
