Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant

Always a helluva time at this Buca in particular. Bill, our server, was just outstanding! I have never had a bad experience here but this time was exceptionally better due to him.

We went here with family. I loved that everything was served family style. It was a great way to try different things. I thought that the spaghetti with meatballs was delicious (and the meatballs were HUGE), the caesar salad was good, as were the mozzarella bread sticks and the kids' cheese pizza. All of the other things we tried weren't bad, just not exceptional or very memorable. Our server was great and he told us all about the history of the Buca building, which was really cool to hear.

Always fun to go to Buca or to even take it to go. The food is usually pretty good. My wife is Italian and a fantastic cook, so going out for Italian is always a challenge. I had a Manhattan that was $15 and pretty disappointing compared to some other restaurants we like such as the Saint Paul Grill or the Twin Cities Grill. Our dinners were okay. We had the brownie sundae for dessert, and it was good, but some of the brownie squares were too hard to cut or try to bite. I think the brownies should be more chewable. It also seemed like a long time to first get our dinners and then, to get the brownie sundae desert. Also, no bread or rolls were brought to our table. Most restaurants we go to usually bring some sort of bread or buns, usually hot and seemingly fresh from an oven, before we submit our order, but nothing tonight. We left full with a few leftovers, but none of us were saying much about how impressed we were with the dinning experience.

Lots of tasty Italian food, served family style. I've never been to Italy, but it tastes pretty authentic to me. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Large portions designed for 4 people are large enough that everyone will get enough, and you may still take home some to eat as leftovers. Recommended.
