We were provided a text which stated the owner was busy and would not be available to greet us upon arrival. We were given instructions on how to access the house as well as our room. The arrival felt very cold and impersonal. The room was nicely appointed and contained a book of very explicit instructions for our stay.
We texted Beth, the owner, when we had no hot water. We were told - it's an old house. Leave the shower run for 10 minutes and it will warm up - What a waste!! The lighting in the bathroom was very dim and left much to be desired when trying to put on makeup. There are accomodations that can be made to "old homes" to maintain the character and charm but provide modern updates/conveniences.
Breakfasts were mediocre at best. When most guests leave the majority of food on their plate, you know something is missing. Half the fun of these facilities is the delicious food for breakfast and often times an afternoon treat. None of that here. We feel the price was high for the services provided.
We have stayed in numerous bed and breakfast facilities and have always had top notch facilities and hosts who went the extra mile. Unfortunately that was not our experience at the Merryweather.

We got married, and stayed the weekend, at the Merryweather Inn and here's why you should too: it's scenic, it's convenient for multiple reasons, and it's a very fun experience that you won't get elsewhere. First, the scenery. Whether you're outside in the garden or inside in one of the beautifully decorated rooms, the scenery is just beyond gorgeous. We got married outside by the fountain because the weather was phenomenal, but we had sooo many options if the weather didn't turn out the way we hoped. The entire grounds are photo opportunities waiting to happen, I constantly was saying ooh and ahh at every room and every detail. We stayed in the Bailey Olcott Suite and I had so many places to lay my dress and bouquet out for pictures. It also made for some beautiful "getting ready" photos. Second, convenience. Beth, the owner helped this poor bride keep her head on. She had all the answers for where to get my makeup done and photographer suggestions, she booked my officiant for me, and she just all around made my life easier even the day of. She's very down to earth and really fun to talk to, and she'll help keep your ducks in line. But also, the fact that you're staying at such a gorgeous place and are able to get ready on site of your wedding makes things BEYOND simple. The fact that I was able to just go run upstairs and grab something if needed made my day so much easier. When the ceremony was done, it was simple to just go back to the room and change instead of waiting all night to go back to a hotel etc. But also in the realm of convenience, you're so close to the canal and downtown area that it was so easy to bring the party to dinner in the area, if you choose to do so. And that brings me to the fun. I can't even begin to describe how fun it was to get married in Duluth, especially at the Merryweather. Beth provided us with a 3 course breakfast in the mornings, complete with little teacups and sugar cubes. One morning we got eggs benedict with salmon and microgreens, which I got to enjoy while sipping out of a fancy teacup, pinky out. Would you get that at a normal hotel? No. I got to wake up feeling like royalty in my giant bed, get up and draw back the sheer curtains like I was in some fancy Disney movie in the mornings. And walking up or down the fancy stairs made me feel like a fairytale entrance. It is definitely not a normal everyday experience to stay at the Merryweather Inn, you actually feel rather pampered and fancy here and it really added to the fun of getting married there. I would recommend considering the Merryweather for your marriage. Our guests and ourselves had a blast.

House was absolutely gorgeous. Didn’t give all five stars because the hostess, Beth, hasn’t really developed her hospitality skills just yet. (A little too passive aggressive for us.) Also, she charges for anything extra. At that price level, we should be able to get ice for free. The house and neighborhood was very charming, as was her father John.

My wife and I stayed there on our wedding weekend and had fantastic stay. The breakfast in the mornings were delicious! The room was a nice change compared to the standard hotel style rooms. The hostess was also very friendly and a great conversationalist. Will go back again.
