The room and bathroom were clean. Most of the staff were great (excluding one not friendly front desk gal Margie? Maggie?), but the check in time is absurd. 4pm? We drove 3 hours for a wedding and begged for an early check in so we wouldn't have to get ready prior to the drive. We arrived in town at 2pm and meandered around waiting. At 330 we came to the lobby and sat and waited and a really friendly front desk gal said she could get us checked in early. We had less than 20 minutes to get ready - then at 350 someone called and said, "we have an early check in time available right now." Like ma'am - I'm in your hotel room already? And 10 minutes isn't checking in early. Expensive and mediocre.
Overall the rooms were nice, and the hotel was located at a great spot!
The service did leave a lot to be desired. Prior to my trip I emailed their reservations desk about checking in early, but I did not hear back. When I arrived early, I asked the woman at the front desk, and she was kind of rude about it.
Fortunately we were able to check in late (I was there for a concert in Somerset) and the night worker was much nicer.
Simply Magical
Our weekend visit to Stillwater was gifted to us by our newlywed son and his lovely bride (a hint to how old we are). This inn is partly historic and partly newer. We stayed in the newer part; right on the river - and like I said, it was magical. Our room was very comfortable and clean, but the star of the show was the view from our 3rd floor balcony! What a contrast between the buzz of activity below and the tranquility of the waterfront. There are all kinds of shops and eateries in this quaint but bustling town, but there is also an amazing setting right on the river with the boats and the lift bridge as well as an occasional gondola floating by. It was so fun, and so relaxing. It's hard to thank those kids enough - the getaway was PERFECT!
