El Charro Cocina & Cantina

The atmosphere is top notch. Sadly this wasn't matched by our service (I'd give her a 3/5). Our food was fine, but they got both my husband and my order wrong. I have hopes these are kinks as it is a newer restaurant and they'll get better.

The staff was super friendly and helpful. The building is nice and new but there are many problems at El Charro.

First, we got a booth but upon being seated, we immediately knew we weren't going to be able to sit there. The booth tables are way too close to the seats and the table is too high for comfort. We moved to a standalone table.

Second, upon seeing the menu, I quickly realized the prices on the food were really high for a Mexican restaurant. If it’s high end Mexican food, that's one thing, but this was not. It’s just typical Tex-Mex faire. The food itself was plentiful, but honestly it had no flavor. Bland is how I would describe it. El Charro definitely needs to improve its flavoring and reexamine its prices, as there are several other local Mexican restaurants that serve superior tasting food with better prices.

Last, but not least, there is a problem with flies in the dining room. We spent the entire evening swatting gnats and house flies.

Had a GREAT experience at El Charro. We have been in a lot of restaurants across the country over the past few months and have been patient with the slower-than-usual service due to inadequate staffing post-pandemic. NOT HERE! Wow...got in quickly, great service at the bar during our short wait for a table, and extremely attentive service at our table, including a visit from the manager/owner. Food was outstanding as well. Highly recommend and will definitely be back on our next visit to Oxford.

I’ve been to this restaurant 4 times since they opened. I would have to say this is the best restaurant in town right now. The waiters/waitresses are really nice welcoming and the managers are on their P’s and Q’s at all times. Maddie who was our waitress the first time was AMAZING! she was very nice, welcoming & knowledgeable about the items on the menu ( given this is a new restaurant). The drinks are amazing and you get your money’s worth. They have authentic Salsa. I would also recommend their Spinach dip its not too heavy, very light and pleasing while waiting on your food which takes no time. The entrees are amazing. So far we have tried the fajitas ( chicken and shrimp) they are good seasoned but not salty. Tacos which are yummy as well & their Chimichanga ( chicken and the shrimp) both are amazing it’s my new favorite and go to. If you’re looking for a place with great food, nice atmosphere and to leave with a smile on your face and a stuffed belly this is the place!
