Soul food is so yummy! Doris and Mina welcomed us in like as if we were family. The menu is very simple and don't let the presentation of the food in styrofoam containers fool you. We ordered ribs and burgers and boy were they great! The ribs are huge and smothered in a honey barbeque sauce. The burgers are homemade and are juicy and very flavorful. For the sides the Mac 'n Cheese, Green Beans, and bbq beans are the best!
The decor has a vintage feel that fits in with the old motif of the old town Independence square. There is history behind this storefront and if visiting the place ask Doris she'll love to tell you all about it. And if you are a piano player there is an tuned piano available to play right inside.
I enjoyed fried catfish. Piping hot, crunchy light breading, great flavor without additional sauce. Two sides: baked beans and Mac and Cheese were good but nothing exceptional. My wife said her hamburger was too salty for her taste. French fries I thought were very good as a stand alone. Everything was hot and fresh. Don't leave without a peice of cheesecake. Not overly sweet or rich just plain delicious. One star off on a over salted burger. Would I give it another try? Hell yeah. Excellent owner and service.
We stopped by here on a whim and it was AMAZING. GET THE CHICKEN NACHOS WITH COOL RANCH DORITOS. Best thing ever. The lasagna and macaroni was pretty good too. The employees were super kind to us and treated us well. They also gave us bread pudding on the house which was very nice of them. We will definitely be back.
If you like greens, you can't go wrong at Ain't Yo Momma Kitchen! Best greens I have ever eaten. Catfish nuggets are great. Ribs are really good, too. Baked beans are different - sweet with a hint of something more - maybe vanilla? but still good and I usually don't care for really sweet beans. Mac and Cheese was good and the mashed potatoes were just like what my wife makes - homemade and real.
And don't forget to get a piece of the unbaked cheese cake for dessert - it is whipped richness that serves as a perfect end to an outstanding meal.
And did I mention the greens?
Amazing food and amazing service. Everything came out hot, fresh and was so full of flavor. The staff is so kind and even gave us samples to try the sides. The portions were huge and we left full and happy.
