Gates Bar-B-Q

Took a trip with my husband to Kansas City and we decided to eat here. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST BARBECUE I HAVE EVER HAD. We got the 3 meat platter and substituted the ham for turkey. The plate was big enough to feed us both easily, but we also ordered onion rings to try them. Everything was DELICIOUS and came out to about $40. Would recommend the ribs or the turkey if you go, both are the best I have ever had.

Was thoroughly impressed! Quality pork ribs, [top grade meat and not fatty at all, just the correct amount] meaty, seasoned to the T, however with the first bite could flavour the cayenne pepper rub on the meat. Cayenne pepper and I do not get along together! Luckily I had Tums with me and that set my stomach right again; it was worth the price!. As the side had Cole Slaw, also great, creamy, crunchy, grated carrots, well seasoned again. And a fountain drink to top off with. Not sure if I had a desert, was so impressed with the entree items.

Establishment was clean, wait person helped me to deliver the food and drink to the well appointed functional furniture/table. Good selection of music in the background to eat by.

I know the other BBQ (Arthur's) joint in KC, KS is where ALL the political candidates stop at, but it was a let down. [See my review for this BBQ joint at Arthur Bryant's BBQ also on Google Maps.]

Stopping at both of these BBQ joints was the fulfillment of a 25 year Bucket List. Only one was worth the stop!

The lady that helped us seemed to want to help everyone else but my daughter and myself... I don't care what your skin color is, green is all you should see when customers walk through the door... Chili cheese fries are a no go for me, I don't believe they are worth $7.95. My taste buds did not like it. We ordered 2 and gave one away after we left. Your ribs were more on the fatty side than I like but they did taste good. I always go to the one off of main, I will continue to go to that location.

Not my favorite BBQ place in KC but still has some good food. Best thing about Gates is how quick they get you in and out. Simple menu and staff has always been nice. Also great portions of food no matter what you order. Definitely recommend you give it a shot.
