This place is the real deal! You’re not going to get Tex Mex or Americanized Mexican food here. No, this is one hundred percent authentic Mexican food. This place is a gem because it’s not just authentic, but they have their own unique dishes from the state of Oaxaca. Not to mention they make delicious margaritas as well. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and the food is delicious.
This was my wife and I first visit to the establishment and I have to say I was very impressed. Very family oriented and the food and pricing was great. Only thing I didn’t like was the tamale I ordered. I’ve never had a flat tamale nor have I ever had it wrapped in sea weed paper. The staff was very attentive, polite and professional I would definitely recommend giving it a try and I will be back
One of the best and authentic Mexican Restaurant in STL, a little pricey but it’s worthy, everything you ask for is amazing good and authentic, feels like we are eating in Mexico
If you're looking for authentic Mexican this is definitely the place. They don't have alcoholic beverages but the food is to die for. As for any language barriers we didn't have any issues. Looking forward to coming back!
La Oaxaqueña is a gem of a Mexican restaurant that you'll accidentally pass up if you're not looking. Essentially under the USA Halal Meat at the bottom of the hill, once you get into the parking lot it's impossible to miss with the brightly painted entryway.
The menu is very helpfully arranged to point out some of their regional specialties one has likely never seen. Chips were good, and salsa was a bit thin for my preference, but had good flavor. The tlayuda was massive, landing on the table atop a plate at least 16" wide, and the pork had just the right amount of char, but wasn't dried out at all. The chorizo quesadilla was also thoroughly enjoyed by my partner. The horchata had a tad more cinnamon than I was used to, but it really set it apart.
