San Jose Mexican Restaurant

5 stars at lunch time not on Sundays, 4 stars otherwise - I'll round up for Ballwin/Ellisville's newest Mexican restaurant! There are a couple other San Jose locations in the wider area, but I was excited to see one coming in right here by where we live. After a couple of visits, I would say the service is excellent, the interior is updated and nice (though if you are focused, you can tell it used to be an Outback), the food is solid, and the portions are generous. I would say the lunch menu during the week and Saturday is pretty killer compared to compatible restaurants, but the normal menu otherwise is a bit pricey for the quality. Hasn't blown me away overall, but a solid option in an area without a ton of great Mexican food!

My friend and I went there yesterday, for the first time 5/10/23. I must say whoever did the decorating must be commended it is a beautiful restaurant inside, and very spacious. Waitress brought out a huge bowl full of chips and salsa which was very good, glasses of ice water were huge, as was the menu. I had the three enchiladas on the lunch menu, the only reason I'm giving it 4 Stars instead of 5, is they were kind of on the cool side as so much lettuce piled on top made them cool off too quickly, but plate was very hot. My friend had the chimichanga lunch special it was kind of small, so I would suggest getting a regular sized one. Overall we really liked it and we'll go back. I did tell the manager on the way out about the lettuce and he was going to look into that, everyone was very friendly and food came out very quickly. I do recommend!

Tried out this week & probably won't go back. Ordered a skinny marg which was very good without the typical sweet & sour mix with just tequila, orange liquor & lime. I thought maybe it was "skinny" because they overfill your glass with ice & the glass wasn't even filled to the top with liquid. This is the ice left in my glass when I was done with my drink (and I didn't chug it!) so you can imagine what it started out like. And it only cost me $13. Guy at the next table was complaining about the amt of ice as well. Got a medium sz chorizo quesadilla w/rice that was adequate for $11 which I thought was pricey as well. To top it off the chips had some odd taste that I can only guess was the oil they were cooked in? Though the salsa was good.

Nearly everything on their menu is made from scratch. All the food was lovely but there was a bit too much salt in the salsa for my family's liking. The flan actually had the bitter taste of coffee like it should. Overall my new favorite Mexican restaurant.
