This is a local place where the locals go to unwind. The pictures of the steaks and prime rib looked so good I had to go even though my travel partner wasn't hungry. The bar was all that was open at nearly 7pm on the Friday before tourist season in April , that we went. There was one server that was running the whole time, and we had to wait 10-15 min to get bill once we were done.
I had the prime rib, that came with a cup of salad, a cup of soup, and my choice of potato (tater tots, joe Joe's, or fries), club soda, and coffee. The prim rib was large, well salted, no herbs, nicely cooked, with couple chunks of fat. There was some light tendon in a couple bites. It was very good, and I took half of it away. The salad was small, with crunchy iceberg, and the traditional grated carrots and purple cabbage, swimming in real blue cheese dressing (my selection) so you may want to order dressing on side. The soup that night was cabbage and bean that had very simple flavor (I didn't really care for it because they used pinto beans and personally don't care for the taste of them, but if you do, it was a nice simple soup) that I think they make there. The tater tots were crispy on outside, creamy inside with a hint of garlic, I enjoyed them more than I expected.
The tables were small and the chairs are metal and coushion stacking waiting room chairs. The bathroom Reaked horribly of suage gas's from drains, but appeared clean, and basic with painted cinder block walls. There are gambling machines, in one area, that I didn't use. There is also a full bar.
I would gladly return here especially if I was craving beef, but I would use a restroom elsewhere first and order their delicious blue cheese dressing on the side.
I live over in Western Montana but if I lived near Billings I would be here at least once a week. This place has the best vibes with the customers all talking like they have known each other for years-all across the tables and bar. It’s like sitting at one dinner table. I didn’t have any food, but what I did see AND smell both looked and smelled delicious! The other customers were raving about what they had. My husband and myself ordered a drink to cool off and sit in the AC for minute. Next time I plan to stop by and to have some food for sure. Great service!
This is definitely an established restaurant in the community. You can be sure that you will get a good meal no matter what you order. Years of tradition and quality is at Gusicks. Today I had the Pork Chop John’s Sandwich, it brought me straight back to uptown Butte eating out of their place. Delicious, juicy, crisp, wonderfully seasoned. It was just missing the Butte feeling. Great place for a steak dinner and listen to conservative chit chat. 😎
Always like their prime ribs, my first time to eat prime rib 20 years ago in the US, still like it very much and more many other big restaurants. Everything I come back to Billings, I always eat there. I don't care whatever other people in their reviews about the servers, they are down to earth people, will tell you what is good or not that day.
