The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. I explained that I was vegetarian and they suggested something off-menu (Snow Pea Tips in garlic) and explained that it was a little more expensive than other items. It was very good. The cook even came out to talk to me about the snow peas. It was such a surprise as I was just looking for something close to the airport.
Great authentic Chinese food. Awesome service in a modern atmosphere. Does not disappoint.
I don't think you can find a more authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine within Reno! Dishes and priced very nicely with great family style portions. Service was quick and excellent. Waiter spoke and understood English fine and most definitely speak Chinese here.
Servings are large and should probably be ordered family style for sharing mains and sides and such. Food is really good and tasty. Only downside is: the Waiter didn’t speak English - which was only a problem since I didn’t understand the menu fully and had questions about sides or lack thereof. Very fast service tho. And the waiter was pleasant despite the language barrier.
Shanghai Bistro is in the location that used to be 2-D wok. Different owners and different wonderful cuisine. It's a pleasure to find authentic regional Chinese food in Reno.
There is a Chinese American menu in the front, but if you turn to the chef's specials at the back of the menu, you'll find the treasures. Staff is very friendly and helpful and will answer your questions to help you put together a feast that is as mellow or adventurous as you prefer.
The soups are excellent; this chef knows how to make a heavenly broth. We highly recommend the chengdu egg soup. The salt and pepper shrimp, calamari, and chicken wings are excellent.
On our latest visit we called ahead to get lion's head a special meatball dish that we learned to love years ago at Joyce Chen's in Boston. Shanghai does an equally memorable lion's head. We rounded out our meal with perfectly cooked sauteed pea sprouts.
On a prior visit we enjoyed some of the best tripe we've ever had and farmer style pork, a spicy twice cooked pork dish with chunks of jalapenos. Yum!
