Dong Fang Chuan Dian

Food is good. Mapo tofu is really really good. We were served by older waitnress, she needs to give people space and stop trying to lecture everyone. Very annoying.

This place is an EXPERIENCE. From the wait, to the hazy, smoky air, to the coals they shovel into your table grill, this place is by no means a fancy place, but it's a place you should definitely try for dinner. The lamb skewers (the main draw here) and mantou (grilled over the coals) are great, but if nothing else, you should get the goguma mattang (candied sweet potatoes). They come out sticky and covered in syrup, which hardens into a crackly crust once dunked in a bowl of water (trust me on this) for a crunchy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside treat. I have taken an Uber from Manhattan for these potatoes. There are also a huge variety of other skewers, as well as other Chinese/Korean dishes. But the sweet potatoes, man.

I have been here several times and have never been disappointed! The food is outstanding and I can easily say the skewers are better than any I have had in Korea or China.
The staff is always very friendly and polite. Although it's small inside each table has plenty of room for a large group of people. The restaurant is very clean and welcoming!
For those who don't know skewers are similar to Korean BBQ but simpler and more enjoyable to cook and eat. Dong Fang uses charcoal rather than gas grills which gives the meat a better taste. Great experience and I highly recommend here for people of all tastes!

Food is great. Very authentic Chinese bbq. But a little too pricey.
