The Essex House

The Essex House was the perfect venue for us as we were looking for something with a more intimate and antique atmosphere. It was great that we were able to utilize the entire venue to have the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all at one location but entirely different rooms for each. Kathy and Oursola were easy to communicate with every step of the way. We had a buffet wedding with open bar which was very reasonably priced compared to other NJ wedding venues and they were able to accommodate our requests for a couple of vegan items. The only caveat I have to mention is that being a restaurant, there is no bridal suite for dressing, but I did know that going in. I'm so glad we chose the Essex House - everything was wonderful but the train car photos alone would have made it worth it!

My wife and I visited for Christmas Eve dinner last night. The Essex House was incredibly charming, the service was warm, efficient and thoughtful.

I had a ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection (trust me, I’m a tough critic on steaks). My wife had the stuffed chicken. We both left incredibly satisfied and happy. Absolutely recommend!

Have been to The Essex House many times for various events. This year we went for Thanksgiving; this is the first time my family has gone out for Thanksgiving in 50+ years. Wish we had done it sooner. The food was excellent and the selection was huge! Carving station had Turkey, ham and roast beef. There were sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, veggies, chicken, penne a la vodka, cream of Turkey soup, cranberries, assorted salads, cheese plate, shrimp cocktail and fresh fruits. The desserts were too many and scrumptious. The common theme during dinner was "Why hadn't we done this sooner!!!" A new Thanksgiving tradition has been started in my family!

Parking easy, very nicely decorated. Pleasant staff. Food Ok...cook creepy...came out of kitchen staring at female guests for a good while during desert. Almost said something to him.

I was blessed to have my bridal shower here. It was wonderful! Had it on a Sunday during the Sunday brunch. We were in a private room set up beautifully. We got food as we pleased. Staff was super nice and did a wonderful job. Perfect place to have parties!
