Beautiful renovations. Great bartender. Enough room to not feel over crowded. Can accommodate strollers. Food is good (not great) but exactly what you would expect.
Max’s is a Jersey Shore institution that has been part of family highlights on the beach for generations. They recently completely renovated the restaurant, which now features an industrial-style bar serving local craft beers from the area. Their foot-long hotdogs are still the centerpiece of the menu, along with fried mushrooms and fried zucchini. The menu now features a range of healthy options like salads and fancier choices like a lobster roll with homemade chips and a range of hotdog options with creative topping combos.
I have been going to Max's Bar & Grill since the late 70's when it was on the boardwalk! Since moving out of Monmouth County I may visit once or twice a year & still love those hot dogs! Seen a lot of good changes through the years for the establishment!
So glad they reopened and re did Max's hot dogs. It's pretty cool inside they have 2 very Big TV's.. A big bar... The hot dogs rose amazing I had a great hamburger.. And the sweet potato fries are delicious... Great bartender and it's definitely a place to go and hang out not just get a hot dog it's a restaurant now...
Max’s just reopened after significant renovations and redesign to the space.
Recently went there to see how the new Max’s is compared to the previous version.
First the good.
Good location off of Ocean Ave. There is parking on the property and on the side streets and near the ocean (but not on the ocean nor it has any ocean views).
Still has the foot long hot dogs which Max’s is known for.
The bar area has been redesigned as has the layout if the seating areas. There are some nice booths which are behind a wall which separates the bar from the booths. Also there is a separate area that is a “traditional” counter service space set off from the bar and the rest of the dinning area.
Things that need to be considered:
Found the price for a hot dog to be pricey compared to the Windmill which is only a few blocks away
The hot dog bun was a standard size, not a foot long.
My companion had the vegetarian burger and found it had no taste and would not order again.
The onion rings were very good. Crispy and not oily.
There is a nice selection if IPA beers available.
Although they were not busy, it was noisy in the dinning area as the floor is sealed concrete, there is no ceiling and there for no noise abatement.
If in the area, it is worth a moment to stop in as Max’s is a known shore icon. However, in my opinion, better prices and food selections can be found at other close locations.
