Been there twice, happy twice. Nothing fancy, but good food.
Best Jamaican restaurant in NJ. Always order steam snapper and its always on point. Freshly made each time. I recommend anyone that loves authentic Jamaican food to come to JamaGrille!!!
I’ve been meaning to stop in this little, unassuming grille for quite some time on my way home from work. I’ve never tried Jamaican food or a restaurant like this, but I kept noticing it week after week that I finally convinced myself to stop in.
I will start by saying that the back parking lot was a little sketch, a little scary, and not at all appetizing. But at this point I was already parked and figured if the 5 or so people actively eating or waiting for their food didn’t mind, then neither should I.
Boy am I glad I took the leap and walked in! I was pleasantly surprised by the quaint, clean and friendly vibe of JamaGrille. I was a little out of my element here, but the hostess at the cashier was more than patient and kind to help me choice some good starter dishes for me!
I took my food to go, and after a 20 minute ride home, my food was still warm when I finally sat to eat!
I ordered the chicken stew with red rice and beans, Jamaican Wings and plantains. Seriously, the more I ate, the more I loved it! The stew was a perfect blend of who knows what kinda flavors that the rice and beans absorbed perfectly! And the cabbage/greens/carrot side that came with it remained firm and crunchy and lightened the dish perfectly! The jerk wings packed a light punch. Not too fatty. Fall off the bone. Perfect. And the plantains added the sweetness to break up the spices of the dinner.
At this point I kinda wish I had the courage to try the goat or ox tail or fish dishes!!! If they are prepared as perfectly as the chicken stew, I’d trust this place to expand my palate!
Bravo and welcome to the neighborhood!!
Was my first time last night-- my brother brought me, as he had been here several times and raved about it.
Great, fresh food and friendly service from the cook to the server. I ordered the coconut fish that had a side of rice and beans, shredded veggie that I think had carrot and cabbage, which was delicious, and plantains. Perfect together. Good enough that I ordered another plate to take home for my wife. Unfortunately, she had already eaten dinner. It was all I could do to not scoff it down right then and there. But I held off.. It's now one day later and its sitting in the fridge . She had better hurry.
Oh, had also had side of jerk chicken which was awesome.
Can't wait to go back.
