Great bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and other options. The place is popular so it's always super hectic when visited in the morning.
The unfortunate issue is when orders are ready, the cashier just shouts out what the item is/are. Although she seems pretty good at remembering who ordered what, not always since it gets so busy. That puts it on customers to figure out amongst themselves whether she just shouted out your order or someone else's that ordered the same thing; that's pretty silly. Associate orders with names, numbers, or have a ticket system like some delis do and you avoid putting your customers in an awkward situation.
The food is good but the customer service is always lacking unless management is there. One young lady with a short cut rang me up and I had to ask for a copy of my receipt. I noticed a $2 charge that read "Misc No Tax". I asked her what the charge was for she tells me that's just how it comes up. I asked her what is "it"? It can't be the 3% credit card fee. 3% of an $8 sandwich (which wasn't toasted as I ordered but was hard as hell) and a $2 soda isn't $2.19. They're always busy in there so she is frantic when a line forms and asks another woman with a hat passing by to see if she rang me up correctly. Hat lady asks short cut what did I order. Short cut starts digging in the Bakery plastic bag (that I put my sandwich and soda in) from my purchase right before I picked up my food from the deli. Hat lady then looks at my receipt and says my total like that was the question at hand. At that point I said forget it. Not worth $2 dealing with rude service.
I really like coming here. Food is delicious, most importantly. I think the service from the staff COULD be better, but that's pretty much it.
BEST BAGELS IN JERSEY. Most inefficiently run shop in Jersey. Service is not rude. It's just inefficient. Painfully so. But the bagels are so good it's kinda worth it.
UPDATE: After I don't know how many years, they figured it out! No longer painfully inefficient, still the best bagels this side of the Hudson.
Service can be hit and miss—they are sometimes friendly. Happy to support this local shop. Great bagels.
