Charming little place just out of town. The property is very peaceful. Stars visible at night. The building has an interesting history as a school, nursing home and country club at various times. It is an old building but has been well restored. We stayed in Gila room which was in the front corner off the main sitting area. It was a very comfortable room with access either through the sitting room or off a patio. If felt a bit like staying at your aunts house. There is an art gallery in the main house with art scattered throughout the public areas. Dining room at the other end was very comfortable and inviting, complete with coffee and cookies! We enjoyed a walk around the property to meet the cows, chickens and horses. The biggest delight was Mew Mew, the gorgeous black cat who is the greeter (when he feels like it) and hiking companion. Breakfast comes with the room and was excellent--a dish assigned by the day. We didn't make dinner reservations as we were unsure of our arrival time but I'd definitely suggest RESERVATIONS if you want to dine there. Silver City didn't have many non-chain or higher quality dining opportunities that we saw. The owner was present on property and we enjoyed chatting with her--interesting traveler and gave good directions for Gila Wilderness. My only concern was that there was a party staying there that camped out in the common area, playing music and singing. Next time, I'd probably request one of the rooms in the casitas and away from the main lodge to avoid that problem. They did quiet down once we politely asked but really didn't want to have to do that. All in all, it was a fun, quaint, comfortable peaceful place to stay.
We’ve been driving from Albuquerque to Silver City as often as we can get away. Bear Mt owners share Silver City history with a perfect sense of grace and humor. Local and regional artists fill the Lodge with stunning - and, yes, also more than a bit of quirky art work. You will probably never find another venue that has as much charm and love of place as Bear Mt. Lodge.
Note: Chickens, horses and dogs are present and accounted for.
The lodge and rooms are lovely, the setting spectacular, the restaurant has excellent food. It has such a relaxing atmosphere and it is so quiet. We come here usually once a year and always enjoy the get away. There are trails around the property and many lovely places to sit and read a book. Silver City offers shops and artists.
Fantastic stay! The Mimbres room has it's own patio looking out at a bird feeder. Lots of birds hanging out. Dinner was wonderful with friendly relaxed service. Breakfast was fantastic. Just a lovely place and worth the money for a quiet getaway.
Our stay was delightful. Historic lodge remodeled along with cottages. Set in pine forest wit diverse healthy native grassy meadows. Great food. A quiet retreat with all modern rooms, etc.
