I got to try this place on suggestion from a colleague during a training we were both in Gallup for recently. Genaro's Café is very good at traditional Mexican food. Both the red and green chili are amazing! Since it was a new place I got my go-to combination plate. The house combo comes with: a taco, cheese enchilada, tamale, posole and refried beans. One of our party asked about the heat of the chile, so they actually brought out a sampler of both Red Green and some of the pulled pork! I got my combo plate smothered Christmas. I think the next time I go, if I get the combo plate, I'll specifically ask them not to smother the taco. Overall a wonderful lunch! Great service and great atmosphere!

A really nice guy got our drinks then our waiter gave us the menu and asked for our drinks. I was a bit surprised the waiter didn't really greet us. Our order taken and waiting for meal. The nice gentleman brought us chips and salsa. After about maybe 15mins or so our food came out. Again surprised our waiter didn't say "here you go" or "excuse me here's your food"
Asked for water and it wasn't really busy at the time but our waiter didn't check on us during our meal. Maybe about 20mins before closing he ran around the tables handing out checks and we once again asked for more water.
The nice gentleman was working hard, running around, bussing tables. I looked around to what I think the workers table with them chatting.
Truth be told I tipped him way more than I tipped our waiter. It was until we were headed out when our waiter said "good evening" I'm pretty sure he's new to customer service.
    Food is Alright.

Once we got sat, the chips came out. The salsa had a good heat to it. We ordered the stuffed soppillias, one with chicken the other with shredded pork shoulder. Both were ordered Christmas style with a green chilli and red chilli sauce on them. The other plate was blue corn enchiladas with the green chilli, rice, beans, Anda plain soppillia for dessert. All three of us agreed that the stuffed soppillia with the shredded pork and green sauce was the best.
This restaurant is off the highway and worth the stop. Don't let the neighborhood determine about staying. We will be back.

Want to eat at the locals’ choice in Gallup? It’s here. Probably the best chile relleno I’ve ever had. Smothered in red chile sauce. Damn good. Carnitas stuffed sopapilla smothered in green chile sauce wasn’t bad either!!

We stopped in at Genaro's cafe in Gallup nm.. We placed our order and got our drinks. Ate our chips and salsa. It got busier as calls coming in customer placing oders.its took awhile for the waitress to refill our drinks. Evening came it got less customers.we ordered taquitos rice, beans & drinks. We got our plates and my rice, beans were cooled down😯 but, taquitos were hot. The food was Delicious.
