I went here with my partner for a dinner date and it was a lovely evening. The food was exquisite and I have to commend the chef and cooks that prepared the dishes because they were beautiful in presentation and absolutely decadent.
The only incident that created a 'dent' in our experience was the extremely overpriced $6.00 per bottle Saratoga spring water, which was offered to us along with tap water, which I would have opted for in a heartbeat had I known this bottled water was going to be charged to me for $6.00 (I didn't even know I was receiving the bottle; I figured it was just a glass). Alas, I am not rich enough to know if this is common among elegant, pricier restaurants but I am not part of the elite that has the funds to pay someone to sweep their driveway.
Besides being saddened and annoyed at the overpriced bottled water (we saw a sale for the same exact water bottles: 2 for $4.00, in which I almost cried), it was a lovely experience and next time I will definitely just opt for tap water.
Amazing! Authentic! The owner and chefs truly take pride in the menu and quality they serve. You much try it out! (And check out the cool pictures in the bar area!)
In town on business, my friend and I were referred to the cafe for dinner. Without any reservation we were seated immediately, the staff was friendly and attentive. This restaurant reminds me of some great places in Chicago...walking down below street level to get in.The food was EXCELLENT, locals in Albany should know they have a great Italian spot right in their neighborhood. We started with an eggplant app, the red sauce on the eggplant was A++.
Great find in Albany! Was packed on a Monday night, so reservations are recommended. But we lucked out and got a table that was just vacated by previous party. Our server, Lane (32 years employed here) was also the bartender and was outstanding! The food rivaled any I've had in the North End of Boston, and the ambiance was quaint and romantic.
Excellent food. Truly Italian, not what some refer to as Italian. Small, but the ambiance is terrific. Highly recommend!
