GOING GLOBAL. I TRULY ROCK WITH THE FOOD IN HERE.
This was another fish spot previously. And Tessey's is a true upgrade. Real comfort food. The have a decent menu with quite a bit to choose from. I decided to keep to my southern taste, and got the catfish with 2 sides; mac n cheese, and collards. The mac is made fresh, and baked to perfection. No soupy spoon mac, but stand your fork in it mac. And plenty of cheese! The collards were also fresh made and had a very good taste to them. I think i caught just a hint of sugar in them? Maybe to cut down the bitterness that greens tend to have. But it was very good, and although i cannot call them spicy in any way, there was a little kick that showed some love went into making them. Note: they use smoked turkey necks, NOT pork. So eat up! The catfish was fried upon order, so no dried out fish sitting under a heat lamp. Worth the couple extra minutes it took to get my food, in my humble opinion. And lastly, they take care not to over salt their food. I mean, not everyone can eat salt like that. I didn't feel like i was eating "paper" either. They have hot sauce, bbq sauce, tartar.....and plenty of others. Their prices may seem high, but my plate had a minimum of 2 servings in it. So technically breaking it down like that, my meal tonight was only 9 dollars, and i got lunch for work tomorrow. I can get down with that, considering it was pretty much home cooked. Overall great food, and i will go back on another night when I'm home alone again. Oh, and the young woman at the counter? Amazing personality! Definitely try this place out. We got to support our local owned businesses, and this one deserves it!
Thoroughly enjoyed my fish dinner!! Food was well-seasoned, but not salty. The owner and staff are courteous and very professional. I only have one criticism: More African Pepper in the Jolof Rice. Lol. I know not everyone can take it!! But. . .
I wholeheartedly recommend this place! My new go to spot!!
NEXT TIME: African food!! Need some FuFu in my life!!!
Five ????????????????????
Tessey’s is new restaurant that opened in what was once Simply Seafood. Tonight I ordered 2 plates(oxtails and jollof rice and jerk wings and mac and cheese). The food was so good and being a southern girl I was truly impressed with the mac and mac. I’ll definitely be going back to try the shrimp, fish, and fried chicken.
Make sure to pay attention to the menu when ordering because it’s really two separate menus.
Now go and support this business and get your heart and belly full!
