The Odyssey Diner has replaced the old Gus's Steakhouse. It is an interesting cross between the extended menu of the New York City area diners, and a more upstate style New York Diner and it's decorating choices. By this I mean that instead of a lot of modern Glitz, there is a lot of wood trim.
The food selection covers several pages (just like an NYC Diner). I ordered a hot open roast beef sandwich. That is the usual way such a sandwich comes in New York City. Upstate it's called a hot roast beef sandwich and it comes with the bread on top and bottom, like a regula sandwich. r . They use the New York City Style with the the roast beef covering the bread. That seems to be in keeping with the feeling I get that the food is actually a New York City presentation.
Regardless of these minor differences, the food was very good the waitress we had was very friendly, very quick and seemed truly happy to provide excellent service. The bathrooms are very clean as was the restaurant clean and tidy. They have their own parking lot which makes it easier to stop at this place.
The Only Fault worth even mentioning is that access and egress requires 2 steps. This is okay for me, but would be a problem for those using wheelchairs or having other walking problems. In all, I would say this is a very good restaurant, and it's probably the best in quite a radius. I gave it four stars because there really wasn't any serious problem and it beats all the other diners in the area that I've been to.
I visited for Valentine's day at dinner time. It was reasonably busy with maybe 10 tables of patrons. Most were couples and one party of 4-6. Since it was our first time there, I asked the 2 parties who were departing if their meals were good. Both said they were good, but that the restaurant was out of quite a few things. (Lobster tails and several cuts of steak) We waited 5-7 minutes to be seated and another 12-15 to have our order taken. I had the one steak that they offered and it was completely unseasoned. My date had the seafood platter, minus the lobster tail and was satisfied with it. While the service was slow, the servers were very nice. Overall, it wasn't a GOOD experience, but it wasn't a bad one either.
Pay no mind to the naysayers! We very much enjoyed our dinner at the Odyssey tonight! The staff were very friendly & accommodating and the food & service were great! We will definitely be back! ☺
We had a very good meal at the Odyssey. The menu is very varied, but my wife and I both chose fish. We weren't disappointed: both the stuffed salmon and stuffed sole were delicious. Apart from a minor glitch, the service was good. We'll be back again soon!
